Popular ‘90s Celebs We Still Love Today

A lot of us still think that the ‘90s was only a decade ago when it had already been nearly two decades since. The last decade of the last century allowed Americans to let their hair down and have fun and was largely characterized by hilariously cool fashion fads and impressive girl power.

The 1990s was ruled by actresses, musicians, and daughters of celebrities who proved that they too are worthy investments in the entertainment industry by working their way up to the spotlight as well. Though they’re no longer at their peak, let’s find out who are still relevant to this day.

ALYSSA MILANO

A lot of us ‘90s kids have surely grown up spending after-school afternoons catching up on the popular sitcom Who’s The Boss? where the then-young Hollywood starlet Alyssa Milano appeared as Tony Danza’s daughter Samantha Micelli. Her career in the entertainment industry began to pick up when she was cast on the serial fantasy Charmed as the carefree Halliwell sister and witch Phoebe.

SARAH MICHELLE GELLAR

You can’t escape the 1990s without even a glimpse of the supernatural TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer which famously starred Russian-Hungarian actress Sarah Michelle Gellar. It seems difficult to forget about the spirited identical twins portrayed by Tia and Tamera Mowry on the beloved teen sitcom Sister, Sister who were kept apart since birth but were later reunited. The two often donned the same ensemble, though it was probably neither twin’s intention to do so. Nowadays, the twin girls are still affiliated by Nickelodeon to whom they owe credit for getting them to where they are today. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen took turns portraying the lovable Michelle Tanner on the popular sitcom Full House. Since the series had ended though, the twins’ performance there and their charming personas proved themselves as key investments in the entertainment industry that easily guaranteed a billion-dollar domain that would require a financial advisor or two for money management purposes. She put out her successful self-titled album which was later followed by her sixth and equally prolific studio album The Velvet Rope. Janet is currently 53 years old and has her hands full with caring for her first child born in 2017. She also appeared on the MTV dating show Singled Out as Carmen Electra’s co-host, guaranteeing the wackiest antics ever. While she could probably require a financial advisor to help her sort out her finances thanks in part to her appearances in Scary Movie 3 and in Two and a Half Men, she could need a different kind of advisor to change her anti-vaccine stance especially after publishing a few parenting books.

She also has some voice acting credits up her belt including her work on Family Guy and The Justice League.

ELVIRA, MISTRESS OF THE DARK

The persona of TV hostess Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, was made in 1981 for the comedy show Elvira’s Movie Macabre, but her fame grew far and wide and was a proven investment for the entertainment industry back in the latter half of the ‘80s until the ‘90s. Her popularity started to soar high the moment she moved to the United States in 1991. Hayek’s most famous film credit yet goes to her work in the award-winning movie Frida where she earned an Oscar nomination for “Best Actress in a Leading Role”. Christina Applegate’s most popular early TV credit goes to her portrayal of the blond airhead Kelly Bundy on the TV sitcom Married With Children. Unlike her ditzy on-screen persona, the daughter of record executive Robert William Applegate and performing artist Nancy Priddy knew the industry well. Unfortunately Christina’s world came crashing down when she was diagnosed with cancer back in 2008. Thanks to a great insurance plan, she managed to have a full mastectomy that successfully removed the BRCA1 gene that provoked her cancer in the first place. Health is an investment after all, and gladly her health has been good lately.

Despite the success that characterizes her career, no amount of investment money can replace the loss that she suffered with the sudden death of her partner Heath Ledger. She owes credit to her band No Doubt for helping her gain the fame that made her a rock star. Stefani may no longer be a member of the popular ‘90s girl group that has since disbanded in the mid-2000s, but she remains under the spotlight through her many forays in the entertainment industry.
